This statue is perched on Duchruach Mountain above Kylemore Abbey in the heart of the Connemara mountains. We hopped a fence with a "Do Not Enter" sign and climbed the mountain side. We were the only people there except for the red sheep. A local told us his mother went to the girl's school at Kylemore and the nuns used to have the girls take a pilgrimage to the statue in the winter to "toughen them up".
